Each year the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation (SVEF) participates in special events for raising funds or for promoting our schools within the community. Annual Fund-raising Events:
The Wine Country Classic Vintage Car Races, produced by Infineon Raceway. The event features vintage race cars on parade around the Sonoma Plaza and then on display in the horse shoe area in front of City Hall for public viewing. The event also features wine tasting and wonderful food from area wineries and restaurants. SVEF is one of the beneficiaries of this event, which will be held May 31-June 1, 2008. The Sonoma Valley Vintners & Growers Harvest Wine Auction, Sonoma Valley Wine Country’s premier wine and food festival, combining the best of the Sonoma County Showcase of Wine and Food and the Sonoma Valley Harvest Wine Auction. Sonoma Wine Country Weekend features more than 200 wineries and chefs over three days of fabulous winemaker lunches and dinners, a grand tasting, and the most fun you’ll ever have at a wine auction. This event raises thousands of dollars for local charitable organizations including the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation. In exchange for being named a beneficiary, the Education Foundation contracts with the SVVGA to raise public awareness about the auction and also to provide a portion of the volunteer hours that it takes to run this successful endeavor. Our Signature Event, Salute to Education is sponsored solely by the SVEF to honor those individuals who are making a positive difference in the education of our children. Held in the spring time, the event brings the community together to celebrate the positive things happening in our public schools. Each year several teachers are nominated by students, peers, and community members those selected for recognition are given marble apples with their names inscribed. The event also features talented performers from throughout the school district. In 2008 the event will be held on May 10 at the Sonoma Valley Veterans Building. The Sonoma Valley Education Foundation works collaboratively with Sonoma Jazz + to bring music to our local public schools. Over $185,000 has been contributed since 2005. Please visit www.sonomajazz.org for event information and to support music in our schools.
